Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Status Update to Clubs - Wednesday 18 March
Good Afternoon All,
Just a quick update to advise that there is no significant change on the situation to last night’s announcement regarding the postponement of community rugby.
To be clear, the suspension applies to all forms and levels of rugby (including Rippa, junior and school rugby).
We have suspended all rugby games and contact training for 4 weeks. This is primarily for two reasons;
- Playing and contact training involve high degree of contact, close proximity and a high risk of fluid exchange
- People attending games to spectate cannot be limited in number, or registered to be contactable after the fact should that be necessary.
Additionally, we recommend that any non-contact training conducted is limited to strength and conditioning or general fitness activities.
In terms of clubs operating within their own facilities, the onus is on each individual club to determine what that activity is; in line with all recommended Ministry of Health (MoH) guidelines, in practicing good hygiene and social distancing.
In this regard, the following website developed by Government is a good resource for useful information which relates to sports clubs under the community groups section: https://covid19.govt.nz/?fbclid=IwAR1gTABtvG5e-qZiij0m0wkmkp9rW819FxzR6EV5K8ShmhgDcd3rNTFu5Io
Once again, any further queries should be directed to either myself or CEO Matt Evans in the first instance.
Please take care!
Regards
Will Will Caccia-Birch | Head of Community Rugby | Wellington Rugby Football Union
