Hawk's Newsletter #15 - Cripples get up in their eliminator!
Results for last weekend
Cripples vs Upper Hutt Pirates (John Davies Cup)
The Cripples played the Upper Hutt Pirates in a knockout game, Pirates showed up with 30 players quite young and keen. Strange they couldn’t field a front row though stacking their forward pack with loosies. They did get off to a flyer scoring the 1st try in around a minute of the kick off but from then on the boys dominated and rolled over them. Even with 2 boys in the bin at the same time our defence was solid. Pirates did pick up another couple of tries later in the game but we were definitely good enough to win. Big thanks to Mama Sue putting on a great feed as she does every week for both teams. We are a very lucky club. Up The Mighty Cripples!

Terrahawk's 85s vs Wellington Small Axes (Tony O'Brien Shield)
The Terrahawks grinded out a 35-17 win over the small Axemen at a neutral Kilbirnie Park on Saturday, the sun and the guns were out but the shirts were on as it was business time for the Terrahawks who came away with a 5 tries to 3 advantage to take home a crucial bonus point win to take them to a virtual do or die semi final next week for a spot in the grade final on the 12 August.
The Terrahawks were paced early by dynamic duo Rhion and Seamus Rowberry who were playing like they were in the back yard with the 'The Muss ' bagging an early double within 15mins to shoot the boys out to an early lead, the small Axes came back with a converted try to take it to 12-7 at the oranges.
Coaches Corey 'Wrestle' Lawrence and Andrew 'AP' Paul gee'd the boys at halftime and replacement hooker Aaron Franklin responded with 'anything you can do Seamus I can do better' bagging a brace of his own with 2 tries in 2 minutes, the 1st try one for the ages from a rolling maul from 25m out. The small Axes hung in there coming back to score 2 tries of their own to bring it to 22-17 with 10 mins left but the T'Hawks forward pack got better as the game went on with Hamish 'Big Daddy Burg' Ulberg prominent throughout at lock in a well performing pack. The boys closed it out with a converted try to Sam Gifkins and 2 penalties to Rhion to seal the deal.

Pressie's Day
Pressies had their Pressies Day this weekend. It started off with a 1 minute silence for Kaha Keepa who sadly passed away this week, we all wore arm bands. Pressies played 2 , 30 minute games, one against Norths Red and one against Taka (Upper Hutt), we won both games 10 - 5. It was a very beautiful day but muddy.
This ends the Pressies regular season of rugby with only 2 games left, a charity match against Booths Transport and PBC and their, Palmy game away. Thanks to all the guys who turned up every week and played the game. Thanks to the supporters who turned up, thanks to Derek for the amazing write up's, you always outdo yourself. Thanks to Mama Sue and Cherie for the home game meals, Thanks to the rugby club making sure that the guys had clean jerseys.
Draw for this week
Only two games for our lads of which one features in a mouth-watering battle against the Upper Hutt J8's in their semi-final away. Not an easy proposition out at Maidstone but am sure the boys will be up for it. The 85's lads play at home as they itch closer to a play off.

The combined Newlands and Onslow First XV feature in a 9 vs 10 play off against Porirua away at Porirua College from 12.30pm. Finish on a high lads!
This week's poll
The AB's play an arvo test for the first time in ages. What does this new look side win by following last weeks drubbing at the G?
