Hawk's Newsletter #3 - Big W against the Billy Goat's!

Results for last weekend's matches

What a game we saw from the Prem's on Saturday, congratulations team, a well deserved win! The 85s also had a good win defeating Wairarapa in their first game of the National Competition. The Cripples also had a good win. Reports below;

Premiers vs OBU

On a mild but overcast day, the Premiers faced unbeaten OBU in front of a large crowd at Helston Park.

From the outset, it became apparent that it would be a game between two teams who played a similar pattern. However, the Premiers were the better team in the opening stanza and OBU ill discipline resulted in Mark Sutton kicking three penalties.

The first try of the game came from an OBU turnover when Kuso Tuitama picked up the ball and sprinted away to score in the corner. At half time the Premiers took a 16-0 lead.

Going with the wind it was OBU who applied the pressure and constant infringing resulted in Ants Pettett being binned. However, it was the Premiers who scored an outstanding try through Jason Tuitama, Jacob Walmsley linking and putting Finlay Sharp in the corner to make it 24-0, after an earlier Sutton penalty post the break.

OBU changed tactics and kept it tight and were the next to score. Johnsonville kicked a further penalty to make it 27-7 and the game was over. A consolation try to OBU flattered the score line and the Premiers came away with the first win over OBU since 2005 and OBU suffered their first loss of the season.

The Premiers are now fifth equal on the table and looking forward to hosting the high flying Paremata Plimmerton at home this Saturday.

The Hawks on Club Rugby:

Premier Reserves vs OBU Premier Reserves

The Premier Reserves played OBU at Helston. We started off really well playing with better structure. This was reflected at half time we were up 15-8.

OBU came back in the second half and snatched the "W" 20-30.

There are lots of positives from the game. We keep working together, and the "W" will come.
