Let's get back home!

We hit round 5 of the Swindale Shield tomorrow and see ourselves back at home. The draw has been a tough one across the first 4 rounds with 3 away matches against some of the real heavyweights of the competition. Whilst tomorrow doesn’t present much easier against Norths, being back at the beloved ‘Hell Park’ is always a good feeling.

It has been great to see some big crowds attend club games post lockdown and despite player and team numbers down across the board in Wellington by around 25-30%, supporters are certainly keen to get out and see rugby again. It will be terrific to see a big crowd again tomorrow down at 80 Helston Road.

Last week’s matches

A tough set of results for our top 3 sides with them all going down to Old Boys University. Our Woodridge Homes Premier’s were up for their battle for much of the match played at Wellington College, however, some individual brilliance by some of the young talent in the OBU side took the game away from us. Final score: OBU 52 vs Johnsonville 7

Our Superloans Premier Reserve Cripples were moved to Kilbirnie Park and were competitive for a good 60 minutes of their match. The boys are certainly working on that last 20 minutes fitness and application which if they get right will see them competitive with most sides in the Premier Reserve Grade. Final Score: OBU 47 vs Johnsonville 7

The Superloans Colts had it tough against a seasoned OBU Colts Green side going down 78-0 up at Kelburn Park. The boys have a good spirit and will see some easier matches beyond this week’s Norths Blue battle.

The mighty Pressies took on a well oiled Wainui side at home and went down 10-5 in a usual tough fought close one.

This week’s matches

The top 3 sides are at home this weekend after plenty of travel across the first 4 matches. It is exciting to see Head Coach Roy Kinikinilau putting the boots on again tomorrow. He will partner with his brother Paula in an experienced midfield combination which will be key against a quality Norths side.

Get along to Helston and Newlands parks to support our boys!

Don’t forget, the membership draw is at $100 and will be drawn from around 6.30pm tomorrow evening.
