Merry Xmas from the JRFC

Thank You!

I hope you are all looking forward to the festive break as much as I am. It has certainly been some year in more ways than one.

I wanted to reach out on behalf of the Committee to say a huge thank you for your ongoing support. Your support during a really challenging time for so many was greatly appreciated and we simply couldn't have done without this.

A couple of quick notes from my end:

  • We recently held our AGM and we retain largely a similar Committee going into next year. Mike Segetin and Wayne Armstrong step down after significant contributions to say the least and we see some new blood in Keith Mockett and Deb Dornbusch come on to the Committee. Our Annual Report for 2020 can be found at the following link also:

  • We always want to hear any thoughts and ideas so please feel free to drop us a note on these at or

We want to see you back at the club next year and hopefully we will be operating as normal although we can never take this virus too lightly!

Thanks very much again and we wish you and your whanau a safe festive break, a Meri Kerihimete and a Happy New Year!

Blair Hannah

JRFC Chairperson

JRFC Rugby Academy Wrap

It was terrific to see the JRFC Rugby Academy take the leaps and bounds we saw in 2021 in it's second year.

We saw an increase in numbers from last year and were able to cater for 30+ up and coming kids at certain sessions throughout the Academy programme. The boys were not only able to upskill their rugby playing abilities through the quality technical advice on offer but also were able to develop certain off field skills and resilience to assist in being more than just rugby players but better and more well-rounded people.

A massive thanks needs to go to the following people involved in this years academy:

- Joe Gates (Lead)

- Sophie Gates

- Mo Mackey

- Hiko Davies

- Kris Love

- Phil White

- Richard Etti

- Serge Hollis

- Wes Klopper

- Susan Poutoa

- William Hyde

- Perry Barber.

It is great to see so many involved with something we really want to excel over the coming years! Grassroots is key. We are not just saying it but doing something about it!

More recently the Academy was saddened to hear of the loss of Paki Gates (Joe's mother) who lost her battle with cancer. Rest in peace Paki!

Swindale Shield Draw for 2021!

The Swindale Shield for 2021 has been finalised and it sees us take on Paremata-Plimmerton in round 1 on Saturday 10 April. It is a good looking draw to start for our boys!

Some key features of the Swindale Shield include:

  • 10 April home and away start

  • The 13-week Swindale Shield allows each club to play each other once in a full round robin to determine seedings for the four-week finals series

  • The club that tops the points table at the end of the 13 week competition will be awarded the Swindale Shield

  • The season has no mid-week or double-header rounds

  • New four-week Jubilee/Hardham Cup finals series.
