The 2020 Season Looms...

We welcome members, sponsors and supporters to another season. This one is a little more special being our 120th year as a rugby club which everyone needs to be proud of and take a significant amount of pride in!

Pre-Season Fixtures Kick Off This Week

An extended senior squad takes on Paraparaumu in our first hit out of the year at Paraparaumu Domain at 2pm on Saturday, 29 February. This will be a great opportunity for the lads to continue to build on some of the planning that Head Coach, Roy Kinikinilau and his coaching staff have been putting in play. Take a trip up the line and catch the boys!

Next week the lads will travel up to New Plymouth to take on the Spotswood Dogs in what you might say the first serious hit out of the year. Spotswood took out the Taranaki club competition in 2019 so have to be seriously respected. That match will kick off at 2pm on Saturday 7 March, at Spotswood Rugby and Sports Club, Yarrow Stadium.

The boys will then take a week off in the lead up to the season proper, of which the first game is against Paremata-Plimmerton at Ngati Toa Domain at 2.45pm on Saturday 21 March.

Places to stay for our overseas visitors

We are working to get a few overseas recruits in for the 2020 season to bolster our top squads. If you know of anyone with a spare room or accommodation options, please reach out to us at

Season Launch & Sponsors Evening – Friday 20 March, 6.30pm, JRFC Clubrooms

On the eve before the Swindale Shield kicks off we will be holding a season launch function at the clubrooms. Hear our aspirations for the 2020 season and it would be great to see members, supporters, existing and prospective sponsors get along.

We are always looking for new supporters and new sponsors around the club. If you know of anyone or an organisation that might be keen, please get in touch with us!

We Farewell Wally! Saturday 4 April, 5pm, JRFC Clubrooms

As many of you will know, we will be saying goodbye to Wally Smith in April as he moves over the ditch to Melbourne. Wally has been a champion around the club for many years, an absolute stalwart and is a life member!

In appreciation of his services to the club we will be holding an informal get together after the home game vs Upper Hutt on Saturday 4 April. No doubt there will be plenty of you there as we give Wally a good send off.

A Quick Note On Membership For 2020

Yes, we are already onto subs! 😊 Our membership structure is held in line with 2019 as follows:

· Senior and age grades - $120 per player (or $100 if paid before 30 April)

· Senior and age grade teams - $2,000 per team (or $1,800 if paid prior to 30 April)

· Social members - $35 per person

· Partners (of playing members) - $15

· Country - $20 per person.

Get it sorted early to yield the discount. The subs make an invaluable contribution to the costs of having teams participating in the WRFU competitions and also for the cost of our facilities. For the social types, it is a great opportunity to be able to access discounted drinks, food and social events throughout the season.

Work Happening Around The Club

We are looking at the dates of Sunday March 22 and Sunday March 29 as probable dates for a working bee. We will be looking at plenty of tidy up jobs and ideally getting plenty of paint out! It would be great to have any support for this.

We have also approved the purchase and installation of security cameras and expect them to be installed within 4-6 weeks. This is to ensure not only our people, but our property is safer around the club.

The other thing we are working with the Council on is fixing the fence at the northern end of the ground. A short-term brace(s) will be put in place until the Council properly replace it in June / July. They are also fixing the wooden handrail up the supporters path which has eroded away over recent years. Yes, one thing at a time...
