Welcome everyone to 2021. The 2020 year was certainly a challenge for so many of us and it is great to turn the page in many ways on that year with respect to Covid-19. There were some great things about 2020 though in that we really cherished some of the basic things in life like spending time with family and friends after that being restricted for such a period. It was certainly great to see how various groups such as our club unified and did what we needed to throughout that year.
Onwards and upwards for 2021, we certainly are not out of the woods yet in terms of Covid-19 so we continue to urge you to remain vigilant. Do the basics - maintain good hygiene, stay home if you are unwell and keep a record of where you have been. The Covid-19 Tracer App is a piece of cake to use with those of you with phones capable of this!
Premier Head Coaching Appointment
We are extremely pleased to announce that Jason Adamson as our Premier Head Coach for the 2021 season. Jason (some call 'Bubble') brings in a wealth of experience with representing Manu Samoa at test level and also representing Marlborough and the Wairarapa Bush at rep level. He has plenty of top club level coaching under his belt from around the traps in Wellington also. It is great to see him come on board and we certainly look forward to taking a further step forward from last season.
Jason is well assisted by Serge Hollis, Wes Klopper with Ben Fisher, Roy Kinikinilau in more advisory roles. We also have Hiko Davies and Esava Tiko closely supporting the set up in 2021 with Lauren Hannah and Richard 'Hendo' Henderson leading the manager charge.
2021 Preseason Schedule
Pre-season training is well underway and numbers have been solid. We want to continue to see these climb over the coming weeks as we start hitting our straps with our first pre-season matches.
Our first pre-season match is next Saturday, 6 March, 3pm at Helston Park against the Spotswood Dogs. Spotswood travel down from New Plymouth for the 4th edition of this pre-season tie. It will be good to dust the cobwebs off for our boys and be great to host the lads from up the line once again.
The lads then have a week off with a camp set up and then look to do battle against OBU and Marist St Pats Premier Reserves on March 20 and March 27. The Swindale Shield opener is on Saturday 10 April vs Paremata-Plimmerton at Helston Park.
In the meantime, dust off the boots fellas and get along to pre-season training! Helston Park 6pm Tuesday and NOW Thursday's working in with Touch rugby when their games are not taking place.
Working Bee - Sunday 14 March, 10am @ the Club
We are looking to get some good numbers along to the annual working bee at the club. There is plenty of things we are looking to achieve around the club and Cherie Collins will be looking after this.
For those out there that are handy we want you along but also those that are happy to get some lifting, painting and cleaning done. Get along and get our club looking more as it should!

If you want to get involved and help our community get in touch and we can talk sponsorship options. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org. We will be aiming to hold our preseason sponsors function on Friday March 19, more details to follow.
A massive shout out to the following sponsors already committed for 2021: Woodridge Homes, Superloans, Perry Barber Builders, Tracer Construction, Mitre 10 Crofton Downs, New World Newlands, Motor Doctors, Wasabi Air, Affinity Accounting, Wellington Electrical Services, BVH Consulting and Kukri. We are still in the process of checking in with a number of our existing sponsors. Get on board!
Alex Moore Sports Hub - Buy A Brick
If you have been up to or near Alex Moore Park lately, you may have noticed how close the new clubrooms are to completion. The building is looking fantastic and due to open next month!
Our role as one of the founding members is to commit to and achieve the fundraising target for the fitout of the building. Fortunately Wellington City Council and major community trusts have funded the capital costs of construction. It is now up to us, as one of the founding clubs to do our bit and ensure the fitout costs are met.
Your support is needed and appreciated, as the clubrooms will benefit us as a club for a long time to come in addition to our home of Helston Park.
By making a pledge on the PledgeMe page you can purchase a brick, 2 bricks, a bar leaner (for you and your family or mates to name) or make a $5 donation - it all helps.
Here is a link to the PledgeMe page - it takes 2 minutes to make the pledge.
This is your opportunity to leave a legacy, recognising your association with the club. Only days left!
We Farewell a Warrior!
Many past and some present members attended the funeral of John Butt who passed away on the 27th of January at the age of 79. John’s time at the club began in the early 1950s at schoolboy level, then he went on to age grade (colts) and to the senior team. His ability at senior level was outstanding, arguably one of the best locks the club has ever had. He was hard, tough and never took a backward step and was excellent exceptional at lineout time.
John retired from all rugby in the early 1970s. His loyalty went beyond playing and he became Club Captain and Committee Member upon retiring and was soon to be honoured with a Life Membership.
He was a builder by trade and spent many hours of his free time helping to build the then-new clubrooms at Helston park. In the following years, John rarely missed a Saturday supporting J'ville teams at Helston Park or away. Will be sorely missed by family close friends and old footy mates.
RIP John. You'll be sorely missed by all! Gary Maude
Fijian 7's Lads Hit Shannon
Esava Tiko has been leading a strong 7's force in early 2021 and our two Johnsonville teams line up in the final 7's tournament of the year in Shannon.
Good luck to the lads! Vanuinui vinaka! See you back at pre-season soon :)
