Time for the Hawks to take flight!

On behalf of the JRFC Committee we sincerely hope you and your loved ones are well. Whilst we have been enjoying a largely free Covid-19 environment we mustn't be complacent and continue to follow safe protocols - scan QR codes at the club, maintain good hand hygiene and take care at home if you are unwell.

The time has finally come around again for another rugby season and we are certainly excited to see it arrive. Although a bit later than usual, it has been an opportunity for many clubs including our own to build into things and not have summer sports and Easter impact too much. It is apparent numbers in our great game are still battling with registrations across all grades / clubs under pressure, at the same time we are certainly hoping for a great season ahead.

Our Premiers and Cripples are at home at Helston Park on Saturday so if you are at a loose end or simply want to support our lads, get along to see some great rugby and much improved clubrooms which have had a great tidy up in recent weeks. There is certainly plenty on at Helston Park on the weekend;

All teams kick off this weekend which is great to see and hopefully you can get along to support the boys;

Our Premiers and Cripples take on Paremata-Plimmerton at home and look to be winnable games first up. Our Colts take on MSP out at Kilbirnie, the U85's take on a hardened Eastbourne out there and our Pressies battle HOBM at the newly named Pukehuia (Newlands) Park. It is superb to see the 85's back in the mix this year and they are also looking to take the nation by storm by entering the National Barbarians tournament which is expected to feature around 60 sides from across the country in a couple of months time. We saw how much traction that gathered last year.

For a bit more information on the Premiers and how they are gearing up for the season, you can find an article in the Herald at the following featuring Head Coach, Jason Adamson:

Club tidy up

Over the past month or so some great effort has gone into tidying up the clubrooms, green room and also the exterior front of the club. Cherie Collins from the Committee heads up our Bar and Facilities and has led the charge on this with some great dedication and innovative thinking with how the club should look. A very decent freshen up with the paint brush and also a link back to our history has been a key focus of Cherie's over recent weeks. A big shout out to all those who were involved in the Working Bee a few Sunday's back also including all the lads that got along! Take a squizz at our newest addition downstairs;

Some larger focus areas including a roof replacement, fresh carpet and also an exterior paint is on the cards for the next 12-18 months. Good things take time!

What is coming up at the club?

There is plenty to look forward to at the club over the coming couple of months. There are a couple of events you certainly don't want to be missing in May and June. These include the Italian Lunch III which is back and bigger and better than ever. This is followed up closely with Old Timer's weekend which takes place over Queen's Birthday weekend. We play host to our 'lovely' Tawa friends;

There are plenty of other things on at the club and we will keep you updated but get these in your calendar! They are not to be missed and tickets will sell fast for the Italian Lunch.
