Johnsonville rugby

football club

about us

Situated at Helson Park (historically known as Hell Park to taunt visiting teams), JRFC has been an integral part of the Johnsonville community since 1900. Over the years, through highs and lows, we as a club have endeavoured to honour our club motto - "Striving for Excellence".

Over the years, we have watched our community grow and change. As a result, we now proudly boast a rugby club that is rich with pride and loyalty the provides an even platform to support cultural inclusiveness through our passion for rugby.

Ex-President Garry Maude once wrote, "Polynesian rugby has improved remarkably and made a vast contribution to New Zealand rugby at all levels. The Johnsonville Rugby Football Club has clearly benefited from this phenomenon. We are proud of our multi-cultural environment and prouder still of the achievements of those members from the Pacific Island nations, who have chosen to join our club. Players who have represented Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and others, add a pronounced richness to our membership."

In our bid to continue to "Strive for Excellence" and nurture our community, we welcome any brother or sister to join our family.

MEET THE COMMITTEE

We are proud to have such a dedicated and passionate committee steering the JRFC.

JOE GATES

College Liaison

Joe is an integral part of our Rugby Committee and liaises with our college students for recruiting. This is one of our most important jobs - without succession planning, there would be no club. Joe's whanau also plays an important role and their help doesn't go unnoticed!

WAYNE ARMSTRONG

Grants & Funding

Wayne has been on the committee working hard to seek out extra funding opportunities so that we can continue to represent JRFC. The work we all do wouldn’t be possible without Wayne’s hustling so if you see him around, feel free to give him a shout!

RICHARD HENDERSON

Rugby

Hendo is new to the committee and we are excited to see how our 2019 season will go with him on board. Full of rugby knowledge and expertise, Hendo is our go-to guy for all things rugby. Welcome to the family Hendo!

MIKE SEGETIN

Facilities

Mike and his wife Leslie work hard to make sure we all have what we need for functions and home games. For any booking enquiries, Mike is your man! Please see our Contact Us page for more information or say gidday when he pours you a pint.

PHIL MORETON

President

You will find Morty at the head of the table presiding over any important meetings like our AGM and other special meetings. A long-serving committee member, Morty is a true Jville supporter and we are lucky to have him supporting us.

PERRY BARBER

Club Captain

Perry is our Club Captain and hands-on carpenter. Without Perry's hard work and dedication, we wouldn't have our newly renovated bathroom facilities (as an example of many!) You may see Perry out on the field representing with our players and if you do, cheer the bloke on!

CHERIE COLLINS

Memberships & Subscriptions

Cherie looks after any prospective members who want to join our club, as well as the club itself. Cherie's family are known to roll their sleeves up and lend a helping hand right from playing to supporting, to whipping up a feast for everyone. Awesome work Cherie!

SUSAN ATKINS

Treasurer

Susan is another JRFC superstar whose family is a huge support for our club. As a long-serving committee member, Susan has seen it all and continues to work hard to make our club what it is today. Susan is our go-to gal for social events so if you have ideas, send them through to Susan via our Contact Us page.

SUSAN POUTOA

Gear

Susan has recently kicked off her new role on the committee and we welcome her aboard! Susan co-manages the Premieres team and supports the committee with various tasks including gear, social events and club culture.

BLAIR HANNAH

Chairperson

Blair has been a committee member for almost three years, operating in the business development space as well as sponsorship. As a born and bred Jville lad, Blair joined the committee to give back to the community and to ensure its use for future generations.

MEET OUR TEAMS

JRFC is privileged to have a wide variety of teams ranging from Juniors to Presidents. Each team is made up of its own community and with that comes family, passion, expertise and support. We would love for our teams to continue to grow and would love to see the revival of women’s rugby at our club – ladies, if you’re interested please contact us. Have a look at these dedicated teams that make JRFC who we are today!
